Fiber Arts Festival
If you think of oatmeal when you think of fiber
- think again! Guests to the Castle will enjoy
an introduction to the fiber arts. They can visit
live animals; enjoy interactive demonstrations
in weaving, spinning, natural dyeing and felting;
watch sheep dogs at work; enjoy a llamas obstacle
course; see how sheep are shorn and talk to vendors
who are fiber artists and shepherds in their own
right. The younger set can enjoy story corner,
doing a woolly craft, playing old time games or
even jumping on an inflatable gym. A huge success
in 2006 and continued in 2007 is the fiber art
fashion show that will take place each afternoon.
Models will walk the runway in garments and accessories
created from commercial yarns and the fiber of
the types of animals on display. Many of the items
showcased in the fashion show are original designs
by Michigan fiber artists. It’s a shopping
extravaganza as Castle Farms hosts more than 50
vendors with hand made goods including painted
yarn, alpaca toys, original lace shawls, sweaters,
hats, mittens, soaps, rugs, knitting accessories
and much more. Admission at the door is $5 per
